Fun and simple ideas for cool play on hot summer days

5 Jul

1)  All you need is a paintbrush and a cup of water.  Paint on sidewalks, driveways, fences, even the side of a building or house.  When it evaporates, you have a clean slate!

2)  Play in the ice and snow.  Fill a dishpan or water table with ice cubes or crushed ice.  Watch as kids come up with their own simple experiments to keep the ice from melting.

3)  Make colored ice.  Just add a few drops of food coloring to water in different shaped containers, and freeze.  You can even layer the colors.

4)  Freeze small animals or toys in water.  Kids can chip away to free the animals, or watch them melt.

5)  Have a toy wash.  Kids should be dressed to get wet!  Line up riding toys and other large outdoor toys.  A bucket of water, some rags, and a hose are all the kids need to get busy.

I’d love to hear more ideas!
